Inform Your Moving Company If the Move is Postponed

It is not unusual for anyone to experience some problems when planning a move. If you have no choice but to adjust your move to a later date, you should make sure that the first thing you do is to inform the moving company.

By doing so, you will be able to know if your new move date can be accommodated and there are no other conflicts that could arise.

In addition to this, you will find yourself with a couple of extra weeks to double check all moving-related concerns. Of course, some of you might find the delay frustrating. It would certainly be inconvenient to be living in a semi-packed state.

To get through this temporary setback, here are some suggestions.

  • If you are living in an apartment or condo unit, you should definitely inform your landlord about the delay to know whether you can still stay until moving day.
  • Call the retailer or manufacturer of furniture and inform them of the changes in your schedule so that the delivery date to your new address can be changed.
  • Double check all the dates in all your insurance to ensure continued protection. This includes your renter and homeowner insurance. You might also want to ask your moving company regarding any changes in the coverage of your home insurance especially if it covers relocation.
  • Take advantage of the extra time and shop for the other items that you were not able to buy before.
  • Go over your inventory to make sure that everything is packed properly.
  • Get to know more about the new town or city you will be moving into.
  • If you were not able to organize a garage sale, now is certainly the time to do it. This will certainly eliminate the need to bring with you all those stuff that you do not really need. It will also make the relocation easier and faster for the movers.

Keep in mind that these things can be done if you were allowed to remain until the new moving day. If not, you might have to stay with your friends or family. As for your things, you can ask the moving company if they provide storage services.
