Factors to Consider When Choosing Among Different Moving Services

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Anyone who would inquire of moving services would consider different factors before going for one of the companies. Budget is one of the biggest factors, but also, the quality of the service and the moving services’ abilities to take care of your items should also come as top priority.

If you are planning to move soon, as you look at the profiles of different moving services, you should weigh the different factors that would make a moving company the right choice.

Let us take two moving services as examples. Moving service A was established in 1996. It has 14 employees and 3 straight trucks that are all qualified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration of the FMCSA. This certificate would tell you that a truck is allowed to operate in different states. Aside from these, Moving service A also has a warehouse, advanced equipment, and a clean record with the local Chamber and the BBB. It also has a good reputation within the community in which it operates.

Moving service B, on the other hand, offered a very competitive quote that is significantly more affordable than the rates of Moving service A. Moving service B also gave an estimate that they can take around 30 business days before they can arrange transportation for your items.

Moving service A gave an estimate of 5 to 18 calendar days. This means that you can have a quicker move. This can also give you an idea that even though Moving service B seems cheaper, there can be other unforeseen events which can make you spend more than the given estimate. If you are not able to move within the allowed time, you might need to stay in a hotel, which of course would cost you a lot more than when you are already staying in your new home.

When you are selecting among moving services, it is important to be wise in making decisions. Do not automatically go for the cheaper one. Instead, weigh the factors and other costs you might need to incur when going for a cheaper moving service. Get the company that would give you your money’s worth by giving you quality service.

Moving Services Hindered by Traffic

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Moving services are a lot of help to all families who need to move from one place to another. However, as you plan for your move, you also have to remember well that there are some things you have to arrange for your move. In some roads, moving trucks are not permitted to enter. A lot of cities in the country have strict road rules and lands use codes that can be limiting to your moving service hired.

Cities like Chicago, Boston, New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia and Washington have such regulations. If you live in one of these cities, you have to consider the rules when you let your moving truck in your house. This is because the size of moving trucks can be unsafe in some neighborhoods.

According to the New York City’s Department of Transportation’s regulations for traffic, 53’ and 102” wide trucks are not allowed in a lot of sections in the five boroughs. To transport the items to be moved, you have to use a lighter cargo or transportation.

If it is possible for the moving service to be prevented from entering your neighborhood, you are the one responsible to have another mode of transportation available to be used by the moving service, from the house to the point where the moving truck is already allowed. You can also ask the moving service if they offer additional service that would provide transportation for your items to be moved. This would be much easier for you,
since moving your items from your house to a small vehicle, and then to another vehicle, can be tedious.

You have to know the rules in different local areas as you move from one to the other. You are also responsible for arranging for parking permits and getting other permits for the moving truck or trucks to be able to transport your items from your old home to the new one.

As you plan and schedule your move, do not forget to take these details well into consideration. It is your responsibility to help moving services gives you the best value for your money. Your cooperation is as important as their good service.

Free Moving Services?

Friday, July 17th, 2009

A lot of moving services market themselves by saying that they offer free estimates. Some people fall into this and immediately get their service. Do not get duped. Most of the time, the costs that they say are free are in fact included in the price you would pay after you move.

If you go online, search for free estimates, and fill in your information, expect to be called after a few days and pestered by these moving companies trying to lure you into getting them for your move. Although this may help you in looking for a moving company, as a consumer, you would not have as much control with your information as you need to have. Once you start calling calls, how do you know if the person contacting you is part of a legitimate business?

It is best to research well about your options for your moving service. Although this may take a lot of your time, it would be well worth it. And though false moving services use the Internet to deceive consumers, licensed movers can also be found in the Internet. To confirm if a moving service is real and legitimate, you can check if it has an actual address. Take a drive to the address and see if the moving company has an actual physical office.

There are also some forums online wherein consumers discuss their bills and if the items charged to them are legal or not. These charges may include paper pads, masking tapes, inflated new cartons, additional accessorial handling fees, charges for truck space and doubtful processing costs.

Even when these charges may not necessarily be illegal, they are still onerous to the customers who are given a final bill with outrageously high costs. A lot of homeowners have fallen as victims of these moving services that seem to charge for everything excessively.

For you to be able to avoid such scams and false charges from moving companies, make sure that you gather all the necessary information before you choose a moving company. Do not consider only those that offer free services. you can contact the moving companies themselves and inquire of what good deal they can give you.
