Moving services and professionals in the relocation industry say that there are 10 foolproof ways to find out if a moving services can be trusted. For you to be able to decide for yourself whether or not moving companies are trustworthy here are the ten ways you can do for you to be able to determine if the moving service is fit for your office, or even for your home:

  1. Do not book through the Internet. As much as you can, do not book a moving service through the Internet. A lot of times, these Internet-based movers only forward your booking to another company which you haven’t checked about yet. Make sure that you are aware of everything that happens after you book a moving service.
  2. Check if the moving company is licensed by the Department of Transportation, Bureau of Consumer Affairs or Public Utilities Commission. You can call your local state to help you with information about the moving service that you are eyeing.
  3. Check with the Better Business Bureau if the moving services provider you are eyeing has already received a lot of complaints through the Better Business Bureau. Of course, the fewer complaints there are with your moving service, the better service you can expect from them.
  4. Check if the moving company has Workers’ Compensation Insurance. You can ask for an insurance certificate to make sure that they indeed have the insurance. Without the Workers’ Compensation Insurance, you are liable for whatever injury the moving company’s staff may experience at the actual move.
  5. Check if the moving service actually has an office, or a place to do business. You have to be cautious of companies that do not have business addresses on their websites.
  6. The good moving companies do not need to badmouth other firms. They just provide good quality services. Beware of sales people who have lots of stories.
  7. Ask other customers who have availed of moving services. The best way to sell something is through another satisfied customer.
  8. Check if the moving company is a member of the state’s moving and storage association.
  9. Make sure that you read the publication entitled “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move”.
  10. Request important documents from the moving service you got. Once the moving company refuses, then you can consider other companies, as this means that they are not confident and sure of their reputation.
